ADELANTE is a three-day early arrival program during the summer that focuses on the successful high school to college transition of incoming Hispanic-Latinx students. The program’s emphasis is on academic success, community building, personal and professional development, and networking with peers, faculty, staff, and alumni from across campus.
As a scholar in the ADELANTE Program, you will have an opportunity to learn about university resources first-hand and gain guidance and advice from faculty, alumni, current students, and career professionals. The goal of the ADELANTE program is to ensure that students arrive and thrive as soon as they enter the University of Florida. The program is free of charge and is open to interested incoming first-year students (first-year transfer students are also encouraged to apply). Participants will be allowed to move into their residence halls early and all program supplies will be provided. We will also cover the cost of most meals throughout your three-day stay. A team of outstanding peer volunteers will work with you and serve as mentors, leading small group discussions and guiding you during your time in the program. These peer mentors are committed to serving and helping each of you in every way possible by answering UF and/or Gainesville-related questions, giving academic and leadership advice, and encouraging you in your first year.
Ultimately, our goal is for students to complete the program and feel as though they have a strong Hispanic-Latinx community at the University of Florida from the moment they step on campus. If you are interested in this program, please be sure to RSVP and fill out the attached form with your name, email, and shirt size. We will provide more information on the location and other logistics as the program approaches. The ADELANTE team is looking forward to welcoming you to our familia!
Peer Coordinator
The Office of Hispanic-Latinx Student Engagement is currently looking for enthusiastic Peer Coordinators who have a desire to help first-year students of color face the transition from high school to college during the summer of 2022. It is an amazing opportunity to meet incoming Gators while facilitating their academic, personal and professional growth. Peer Coordinators will serve an essential role during our preview weekend. These Coordinators will supervise and mentor our Peer Leaders and aid in the training and coordinating of the ADELANTE program. They will have direct contact with students as they work to prepare programs and lead small group activities and discussions. Each Peer Coordinator will have their own first-year group but are free to connect with other students in the program. We are looking for a diverse group of Peer Coordinators who are involved in different areas on campus. Whether you are involved in student organizations, research, student government or the local Gainesville community, we want you to apply and join the ADELANTE family!
